Homemade Everything Bagel Seasoning

One reason I love the holidays is that it’s the perfect excuse for me to go all-out and make over-the-top goodies to give to my friends and family. If you’re a baker, the holiday season is pretty much your Olympics.

This year I wanted to take a different approach and instead of bombarding people with more cookies, go a more savoury route and make things that could be used in everyday eating and wouldn’t cause anyone to OD on sugar.

Usually my attitude is the more the merrier when it comes to baked goods, but by the second week of December even I’m, quite frankly, over it. My solution is a series of food gifts for all the sweet, sweet people in your life without the actual sugar.

This seasoning couldn’t be easier to make, and is so versatile. It adds an instant upgrade to everything from eggs to roasted veg. Some of my favourite ways to have it are sprinkled on top of hummus, smoked salmon and fried eggs. You could also get super meta and sprinkle some on top of the cream cheese on your bagel.

To make the labels I use Avery’s website to design them and used size #2315- so easy!

Download and print out mine below or make your own. Your friends’ avocado toast will never be the same.

Homemade Everything Bagel Seasoning

makes enough to fill 4, 4ounce spice jars

1/2 cup of sesame seeds

5 tbsp dried onion flakes

5 tbsp dried minced garlic

3 tbsp flaky sea salt, such as Maldon

2 tbsp black sesame seeds

1 tbsp poppy seeds

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and toss to mix well. Divide mixture into 4 spice jars (I found a small funnel was good for this). Apply the label, if using and gift!

I found all of the ingredients, including the spice jars at Bulk Barn.
